Acne Light / Blue Light & Red Light

Acne, while not life threatening, can cause long term physical & emotional scarring. And while it is believed to be caused by a mix of genetic, hormonal and environmental factors, the definitive reasons are still unknown. AFT (Advanced Fluorescence Technologies) pulsed light technology can effectively help clear moderate inflammatory acne without the side effects, pain and photosensitivity of other methods of treatment. Healthy adults and teens are ideal candidates for the non–invasive and virtually painless Acne Light Therapy. During treatment high intensity AFT pulsed light permeates the tissue reaching and precisely targeting the acne causing bacteria. When light is shone on the skin, it penetrates through various skin layers and may help kill some acne bacteria and reduce some of the inflammation or excess sebum (skin oil) production that are characteristic of acne. Benefits of light therapy include low side effects, easy accessibility, and affordability. As the intense light penetrates the tissue, it sets off a chemical reaction attacking and destroying the bacteria, stopping acne at its source & destroying the bacteria faster than they proliferate. After treatment patients can immediately resume regular activities. Most patients achieve optimal results with two treatments per week for four weeks followed by a maintenance regimen.

Blue light has historically been the most commonly used light for the treatment of acne, and it covers the spectrum from 407 to 420 nm. When blue light reaches the sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin, it excites compounds produced by acne bacteria called porphyrins. When excited by light, these porphyrins kill the bacteria.
